Northern girl in Georgia {Athens GA Photographer}

We have been so busy with the move these past few weeks. Moving 900 miles is quite a bit different than moving down the street! Without a basement to hide all the boxes, it’s been a little overwhelming to figure out where everything goes.

Many people have asked me if I am in culture shock…no, not culture, but bug shock, yes! I guess I have to just get comfortable calling roaches “water bugs” or “palmetto bugs” like everyone does down here. It gives them a more pleasant ring! The good news is we don’t seem to have any of the ones that infest your home, just the disgusting ones that travel alone.

There are definitely little differences between here and life in the Great White North though. For instance, Mike says our lawn is nicer than most of the fairways on the golf courses back home. I think we have Bermuda grass, and it feels different, kind of spongy, almost artificial. Maybe it’s all the red dirt underneath? 🙂

Speaking of which, the red dirt (clay?) is impossible to clean. We’ve decided that we will not be buying Haakon anymore white tennis shoes or tennis socks.

It just doesn’t come out.

Everyone told us it would be hot, to our surprise, (and everyone else’s) it’s been pretty mild, at least by Georgia standards.

Most days the temperature is sticking below 90 degrees F. The humidity here is way different though.

Even those “mild” days in the 80s feel much more like the mid-90s back home.

So, here is a brief recap of the last month…

Day 1 – Got in around 10pm after the two day drive with kitty, fishy, Mike, Haakon and I. Our two cars were packed to the max.

Day 2 – Had the Bug guy come and spray. (Yes, it took less than 12 hours for me to make the call!)

Day 3 – Pods arrived and the movers moved everything into the house and garage!

Day 4 – Lots of unpacking …

Day 5 – Still more unpacking. Then, we had a water leak from the air-conditioner unit. It was leaking right above Haakon’s bedroom.

They had to take the whole wall down, and let it dry for a week.

Day 7 – Haakon started 5th grade 🙁

Day 9 – Mike started work at UGA!

Day 12 – Got Haakon back in his room!

Day 13-19 – Lots of unpacking! I realized that I don’t have to hang up ALL my  photos, well at least not right away…

Day 20 – I have been painting up a storm! Redo’s to follow soon!

Day 24- We took a trip to the Aquarium in Atlanta. So much fun!

Day 30 – I feel like we are really, finally moved in! Now that I look back, I almost don’t remember how stressful it was 🙂  Almost…

 Here are a few photos…

Even when it doesn’t feel as hot, after a bike ride, the humidity is brutal!
Stained shoes, time to get some dark colors 🙂Lots of interesting bugs, some that I don’t even know what they are!
